Curly

It's been a while since I've drawn a face. I really love doing this, especially when things work out and someone comes alive on paper. This happened when I was drawing this curly-haired kid. A picture of a kid on Pinterest inspired me to draw this. What's funny is that almost always when I use a picture as reference, someone new appears on paper. Who is not the person I see on the picture. I love drawing people in general and I've always liked faces of mixed etnic backgrounds. It makes me wonder about where people came from and what their antropological background could be. When drawing this kid, everything worked (and this doesn't happen to me all the time, I mess things up a lot!). He (or she?, but to me it's a he) came alive and moved me. He became a real person to me with a story  and a character of his own. I don't know about his story but it defintely feels like he's a boy with a history when I look at him. And maybe a history of his ancestors too.

Enjoying the ride.

I recently discovered David Litchfield on Facebook. His illustrations are georgeous. I really love his style, the colours he uses and the kind of odd characters he draws. A little strange but not too scary. He calls himself a scruffy illustrator :-).
While looking at his illustrations on Facebook, I was inspired. I can't copy and paste one of his illustrations here  unfortunately, but please take a look at his beautiful illustrations on Facebook. He inspired me to draw this one.
I liked Davids drawing of a man riding a bike a lot and I've been wanting to draw someone on a bike for a while. After messing a drawing  up in ink, I decided to do this one in pencil and colored pencil. I thought about coloring the flowers, or should I leave them in black and white?
You can also take a look at my Facebookpage to see this one and more of my illustrations if you like.

Changes on my blogs header and learning

I'm learning to work with Photoshop and I'm trying out some possibilities and which one I like best for my blogs header. It's a process, because I'm finding out by trial and error what the best dimensions are for the file to use for my blogs header. It seems I can only really see how something works when I see it on the blog. When I look at it I notice things I can change to make it look better or think of other possibilities. Or that it would be good to make my Facebook Page and blog recognizable to people. Part of that is not changing it too often, which Is what I am doing lately. And then there are the dimensions of a picture for a Facebook header: they are different and I can't use the file I used for this blogs header, because it won't fit right. Again: a lot of trial and error. But that's how I learn I suppose.  My opinion changes quite often about my own experiments ;-). I believe I like how the header for this blog looks now and I think I"ll leave it this way. For quite a while. Next step is to figure out how to get my header for Facebook right. One step at a time, I"ll give it some rest now and will start drawing. The old-fashioned way: on paper.

Blue Closet

Blue drawer, blue bird....I love blue. The closet on this drawing is more of a grey-blue actually. I started with the closet and came up with the idea of adding some things you might have seen in a previous drawing of mine :-). This way it seems like it's becoming a sequel about the girl with the polka-dot dress. We"ll see what's going to happen! ;-)

Blue Bird

I'm learning to work with Photoshop which I've been wanting to do for a long time and this week I started an e-course. Here's my blue bird, placed on a bug-illustration from an old biology book. I'm so happy I learned to do this digitally! :-D Still a lot to learn, but I'm very content that I'm finally able to do something in layers in photoshop.

I am on my way

The way I usually work is that I suddenly get an idea to draw something I like. I love everything with a vintage feeling and I just love those leather, brown suitcases. I searched for images of this kind of suitcases and I came across a photograph of an image like the one I drew. I liked the photograph so much that it inspired me to make this drawing, of a girl sitting on a suitcase with a bunch of flowers. I often like to add something symbolic, in this case a sticker on the suitcase : 'I am on my way'. Aren't we all? ;-)
